The citizen crime report capabilities allow the citizen to file selected categories of crime reports on-line. The user is guided through a series of questions and specialized data entry forms designed to capture the needed data for a valid police report. Once the report has been completed, the agency is notified that the report is ready for review. Agency personnel will review the submitted report to ensure that the information is complete, and will initiate the appropriate clerical and investigative actions.
The portal allows the agency to specify the categories of crime reports that are allowed. Reports can include basic crime data (face page, reporting party, other involved parties, vehicles, property, and narrative. Simple supplements can also be filed if new information develops.
Citizen Service Crime Reports
FOR NON-EMERGENCY PROPERTY CRIMES
You CAN use this on-line form to report:
• Theft
• Criminal Damage
• Burglary from Vehicle
• Lost Property
• Bicycle thefts
• Open Garage Burglaries
• Traffic Incidents that occurred over 24 hours prior to report and do not involve injuries, alcohol/drugs or other criminal acts.
Data from the initial filing is held in suspense until reviewed within the agency. At this point, the reviewer can accept the report (i.e. generate a full crime report) or reject the filing with reasons and notes back to the citizen doing the submission.
At any time, the citizen can inquire over the Internet on the status of their report or register to be notified of changes via e-mail. The WEB Reporting process is shown in the following diagram.
